TALO emphasizes how authenticity, inclusion, and care can be actively integrated into the design and facilitation of an online course.

2017–2020 University Teaching Development Program (UTDP)

The University Teaching Development Program (UTDP) focuses on enhancing teaching skills, promoting student engagement, and facilitating professional development and evaluation. It provides new academic teachers with a strong foundation in university teaching and learning. The program offers all participants the opportunity to improve their practical teaching skills and encourages them to become more reflective practitioners. The UTDP accomplishes these goals through workshops and seminars that delve into pedagogical issues relevant to higher education. The program covers topics such as student engagement, assessment techniques, and teaching development and evaluation. By engaging in these discussions and sessions, participants gain valuable insights and practical skills. Throughout the program, participants have the chance to apply the knowledge and skills they acquire in a practical setting. This application helps them develop and refine their teaching practices. Overall, the UTDP is a comprehensive program that supports faculty members in their teaching journey. It provides a solid foundation, encourages reflective teaching practices, and fosters continuous professional growth.

2018 Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW)

The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is a 3-day experiential learning workshop that enhances teaching skills. It is conducted in a small, collaborative setting, focusing on course delivery, lesson planning, learner engagement, and evaluation. In the ISW, participants experiment with new teaching strategies and deliver mini-lessons to peers who provide valuable feedback. The learning process, rather than specific content, is emphasized. The workshop combines theory and practice, covering post-secondary teaching, effective objectives, lesson planning, learner participation, and evaluation. Reflection and self-examination of teaching practices are key in the ISW. Participants critically analyze their methods and foster a participatory learning environment that builds community.
